Wenonah Odyssey, Kevlar Ultralight
The most efficient, most seaworthy tripping canoe ever. The Odyssey offers a unique blend of high capacity, seaworthiness and VERY efficient paddling. If you travel the waters of the Adirondacks, Boundary Waters, or Canada's Algonquin and Quetico Parks, you'll see lots of our Jensen-designed canoes. You'll hear rave reviews, too, because Jensen designs are widely acclaimed by the most experienced and most dedicated paddlers, professional guides, and park rangers of the lake country as the ideal canoes for remote trips with gear.Since we made the Odyssey to use where week-long outings are typical, we gave this design high capacity and seaworthiness to hold two people or a family with plenty of gear, and especially to cope well with open lake waves and wind. Odyssey is as fast as racing canoes, but with tremendous seaworthiness and capacity for canoe tripping in challenging scenarios. Length provides more surface area, which provides more volume, capacity and stability.Length allows that surface area and volume to have a very sleek shape that cuts thru the water quietly and with very little effort. Hull Features: Reinforced bow point sustains frontal impacts providing enhanced protection in dangerous waters. Outward-flared gunwales near the bow deflects spray. When ordered with wood gunwales, there is some hour-glass contour in the gunwale line for paddling ease. An "asymmetrical" hull with more fulness behind the centerline than in front of it. This counters the stern's natural tendency to ride deeper than the bow in shallow water. Standard trim is of the highest, aircraft grade, marine anodized 6016-T6 aluminum. High sides (13 1/2") to achieve exceptional volume and dryness. Hull widens quickly from the bow back, providing a very stable canoe with very high capacity; but the hull is carefully shaped to part water, gently not violently. A high bow (20") protects paddlers and gear from waves even when heavily loaded. A graceful bow curve that helps lift and guide the hull over obstructions. Very slight rocker enhances maneuverability without sacrificing tracking speed or paddling ease. The broad-bottomed, shallow-arched hull retains good fulness throughout the length of the canoe ensuring excellent initial and final stability.
